Photographing Luvcat at Melkweg: A Dream Behind the Lens

Some nights remind you exactly why you love concert photography — and shooting Luvcat at Melkweg was definitely one of them. The evening started perfectly: there was a photo pit. Me (extra) happy.

Working from the pit just hits different compared to being squeezed in the front row. With about a meter and a half of space, you get air, freedom, and the ability to choose your moments. And with only three photographers inside, moving from left to right was easy and unhurried.

From the moment I saw the stage, I knew this would be fun. The setup was incredibly photogenic: a black-and-white checkered floor, a piano standing proudly near the front, and atmospheric lights hanging everywhere, casting dreamy colors throughout the venue. Everything fell into place.

I knew exactly which side Luvcat would enter the stage from — so I positioned myself counter to her entrance. And it paid off. I captured her full arrival, glass of red wine and all, perfectly framed as she stepped into the spotlight. A moment that immediately set the tone for the rest of the show.

The first three songs? Pure target practice. Luvcat moved effortlessly between soft, fierce, playful, and powerful — as if she was gifting every photographer in the pit a new moment with every expression. What a woman, what an energy.

Melkweg, a stunning stage, a generous pit, and an artist like Luvcat… that’s all you really need.
